False Alarm - Or Is It?

Where did I leave you? Oh yeah - we were matched with birth parents in Texas. Strap yourselves in because this is where it gets good. We pretty quickly got our affairs in order, realizing we had a few short weeks before we were headed out to pick up our son. Or so we thought.

We had the first conversation with birth parents on Tuesday, June 12th, matched on Wednesday, June 13th and were almost on a plane that Saturday. I called the birth mom to see how she was feeling and if there was anything we could do to help. She picked up the phone and was crying saying she was going into labor. Here I am, literally sitting my lazy butt at the pool, and hundreds of miles away, someone I have spoken to twice is about to give birth to my son. Yes. This is my life.

Fast forward. Run home, quite the vision. Me running home in my swimsuit, flip flops and insane look on my face. We quickly throw our stuff together and wait to hear from our social worker if birth mom is indeed in labor and we can book our flights. We wait for what seemed like hours, actually it was hours, to let us know the doctor said it was false labor. We calmed down and took a breath. She wasn't going to be having the baby tonight.

Her next doctors appointment was a few days later. She had hoped to have her labor induced since she was very close to full term. That appointment came and went, doctor didn't make an appointment to induce, so we wait. Didn't have to wait long, she went into labor the next day.

Wednesday, June 20th 1am. Our phone goes off. Dan jumps up like a shot and says, "Now? She's in labor right now?"

To be continued, again . . .
