Today is an important day. We have begun the journey toward adopting our child. This has been a dream of ours for a long time and we feel blessed and very excited to be sharing our happy news. As we start down this road, our goal is to document our journey every step of the way. For our family and friends - we would love for you to lend much needed support. For our child - he or she will know the story of how we became three.

Happily Baby After.
Like any good movie, you want to know how it ends right? After the credits roll, you want to know more. What happens after they ride away in the sunset? We are very happy to report
Home Bound
On the way back home to St. Louis.
Don't worry, Hunter was in a carseat when we were actually driving!
Our Week In Texas - Part 2
We didn't understand why our healthy, full term baby was being admitted to the NICU which is typically for pre-term babies. Apparently at the same time we arrived ready to bring our baby to our hotel, he had stopped breathing

Our Week In Texas - Part One
Our stay in Texas was full of ups and downs. Much like our journey to Hunter. First there was the 48 hours we had to wait after his birth for the birth parents to terminate their rights. We knew this is how the process worked and were prepared for the wait, however we were definately anxious. Then there was the clearance to leave the state. The good news is, Texas is one of the most adoption friendly states in the nation. What this means is that the laws on adoption are very clear and specific, and the wait
Introducing . . .
Bleary eyed and a little out of it, we repack our stuff for our fast trip to Texas. Truth is, we learned the first go around, best to live out of a suitcase for a bit and be prepared next time we got the call. So we were ready. Dan fed the dogs, let them out while I finished
False Alarm - Or Is It?
Where did I leave you? Oh yeah - we were matched with birth parents in Texas. Strap yourselves in because this is where it gets good. We pretty quickly got our affairs in order, realizing we had a few short weeks before we were headed out to pick up our son. Or so we thought.
The Call
I'm not sure where to start on the craziness of the past few weeks. Bare with me, I'm going to try and make sure I get the details down right. I don't want to miss anything. Friday, June 1st, we went active. We were on the list and the agency website with our profile for all potential birth parents to see. We got a call Monday, June 11th that we had been selected by a couple in Texas and they

Getting Ready for The Wait
Where have the Lutes' been? Busy busy busy. Nothing big to report on the adoption as of yet. For the past month, we have been focusing on getting everything together for the home study and completing our adoption profile. The home study interviews were done last month, however there is a list of 15 documents required for home study approval. The adoption profile is the booklet that birth mothers see when they sign up with our adoption agency. The profile is a sneak peek into our lives - we have supplied 40 pictures and wrote 12 pages of information on us and the graphic designer puts it all together in a neat little book. When we have

Home Study? Piece of Cake
Pacing back and forth, fluffing the pillows on our couch for the 8th time in the past 3 minutes, she arrives. The woman who could potentially be holding our dreams in her little laptop. That’s not intimidating. We didn’t know what to expect when our social worker walked in. A very yummy salsa/ranch dip and cheese and crackers waited on the table. Sounds silly, but I was hoping that she might say,

Wish Us Luck
Mailing out the application and 1st installment to the adoption agency. Next steps - Creating our profile and scheduling the Home Study (just in time, we painted this weekend!)
Making It To The Club
This was a heavy Adoption Activity Week for us. It started out with the first of 2 appointments for Operation Finding The Perfect, Most Knowledge, Adoption Friendly, Easy To Get Into During An Emergency, Pediatrician. After all, you really need to be thorough about this kind of thing. We didn’t realize how important it is to find a physician that is experienced with adoptions and has patients that have been adopted. It really boils down to

And The Winner Is . . .
After several hours of research, many thought provoking questions, in depth agency interviews, we have come to the decision of who to hand our dream over to. A Gift of Hope Adoptions in Columbia, MO. www.agiftofhopeadoption.com There are several reasons why our heart led us to them – we’ll share just a few. First, they are a small, local, full service, adoption agency. And of course, that comes with a good amount of benefits and some negatives.

So here it is - our first real step in the direction of adoption. Choosing an agency. It may seem like a fairly easy thing to decide on, just go with who seems the most professional and of course, the most affordable. Right? Piece of cake. Not exactly. This is a very important choice to make. Choosing the right or wrong agency will dictate how smooth the process will go, how long it will take, and ultimately if we will end up with our perfect match.
If there is any doubt about how many choices there are, just type a d o p t i o n in any search bar and WHAM - 10,000 links pop up instantly. Agencies are like children - they come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, locations.
